Salvation Army Kingston Citadel Community Services Warming Centre operations extended until the morning of Tuesday Feb. 10, 2026

With the forecast calling for temperatures near –20°C with windchill continuing into Monday night, the overnight Warming Centre at the Salvation Army Kingston Citadel Community Services will remain open from 9 p.m. to 8:30 a.m. until Tuesday morning, Feb. 10, 2026.

The extreme cold weather event—defined by consistent overnight lows of –20°C or colder with windchill—will end Tuesday morning. As a result, the City’s temporary overnight Warming Centre will close effective Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2026, at 8:30 a.m.

Opening a warming centre during periods of extreme weather is part of the City’s Winter Services Response Plan 2025–2026, which provides additional overnight supports to ensure people experiencing homelessness have safe, warm spaces available during the winter season.

The City extends its thanks to the Salvation Army, emergency shelter teams, community sector partners, volunteers, and staff from Housing & Social Services and Recreation & Leisure Services for their ongoing efforts to support Kingston’s most vulnerable residents during this period of extreme cold.
