Share your input as the City develops its first Heritage Management Plan

The City of Kingston is seeking community input as part of developing a new Heritage Management Plan, a guiding framework to celebrate, protect and share the diverse stories, spaces and cultures that shape the city.

The Heritage Management Plan will strengthen Kingston’s powerful historical narrative by weaving together heritage planning, conservation, museums and programs into a comprehensive strategy for sharing the city’s stories—both within the community and with the world.

“We’re excited to embark on this process of building an overarching strategy. It will enhance Kingston’s wide array of heritage resources with the personal experiences and histories of the community," says Kevin Gibbs, Director of Heritage Services.

Feedback received during public engagement will help staff understand which parts of Kingston’s heritage are important to you. Public input will be taken into consideration as we develop the Heritage Management Plan.

“We encourage everyone to share the spaces, places, stories and traditions that are meaningful to you, particularly those that may have been overlooked or under-celebrated, so the final plan reflects the community’s diverse histories,” continues Gibbs.

The development of a Heritage Management Plan was identified as a priority in Kingston’s Strategic Plan for 2023-2026. The City has contracted Saffy to deliver consultation and engagement work on the plan.
