Snow problem! Kingston teams up with Snow Angels to battle winter woes
Kingston has teamed up with Snow Angels Canada, a resource that connects people in need of snow-clearing assistance with volunteers who are willing and able to help.
The Snow Angels platform is a community-powered matchmaking service to connect neighbours. Residents can register to receive assistance with shovelling and snow clearing, or can become a volunteer and find neighbours who need their help.
“Winter is better when we tackle it together,” says Karen Santucci, Director of Public Works and Solid Waste. “When the flakes start falling, shovelling is on everyone’s mind. But not everyone is able keep their walkways clear and safe, which is where Snow Angels comes in. It’s a great resource to help out your neighbour and make someone’s day.”
Snow Angels Canada began in 2015 and, one cleared driveway at a time, has grown to become a national resource. Several municipalities have partnered with the organization to help their residents build community.
“This is a great way to make connections and spread some kindness around Kingston. We encourage everyone who is willing and able to register as a volunteer, and for those needing assistance to sign up,” says Santucci.
