Total burn ban to go into effect for Kingston

Due to current weather conditions, including extended dry periods and increased risk of wildfire spread, a total burn ban has been put in place for Kingston effective Saturday, Aug. 9, at 8 a.m.

The ban applies to the entire municipality and will be enforced in accordance with the Open Air Burning By-law. It will remain in place until conditions improve and Kingston Fire & Rescue deems it safe to lift the restriction.

A total burn ban means the following activities are prohibited:

  • Setting off fireworks
  • All open-air fires, including campfires, outdoor appliance fires, agricultural fires and brush fires

The ban does not include outdoor appliances with mechanical shut-offs, such as smokers, barbecues and charcoal appliances, however, please exercise extreme caution.

Fire officials will monitor the situation and provide an update when conditions change.
