Water Distribution Program launches to support health, safety and dignity of people experiencing homelessness during heat warnings
When heat warnings are issued, access to clean drinking water is a necessity. The City of Kingston is pleased to announce the launch of a Water Distribution Program as part of its ongoing commitment to support the health, safety, and dignity of those who are unhoused in the community.
Through the program and a network of partner agencies, including outreach teams, community organizations and advocacy groups, the City is providing free bottled water to individuals in need.
The program will continue throughout the summer months and will be evaluated regularly to ensure it meets the needs of the community effectively.
This initiative is designed to:
- Support local organizations already working closely with our vulnerable population
- Ensure hydration for individuals who are unhoused
- Mitigate the risks of heat related illness during hot weather
The designated distribution site is Home Base Housing located at 540 Montreal Street. Community partners can drop by between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday to Friday when heat warnings are in effect. In an effort for the City to manage distribution of water into the community, partners will be asked to complete a brief form to pick of cases of water bottles.
The City extends its sincere thanks to Home Base Housing and all community partners, including local nonprofits, for their collaboration and support for those who are unhoused.
