City to host additional household hazardous waste drop-off event
The City of Kingston will be holding a third household hazardous waste drop-off event for residents on Thursday, Nov. 5.
Kingston residents can visit 3 Terry Fox Dr. (KFR Training Centre) from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. with their items. The last car will be let in line at 6:30 p.m.
You can expect a familiar drive-through set-up where staff fully manage the materials, which should make the line move quickly. The full range of household hazardous waste normally collected at the City facility will be accepted. We ask that visitors sort batteries into types for quicker disposal, and note that refillable containers such as jerry cans will not be returned to avoid the risk of hazardous spills at the site.
Lining up before the 11 a.m. opening is not encouraged as it creates unnecessary wait times. All cars in line by 6:30 p.m. will be given the chance to drop off their materials. The event is only open to Kingston residents.
Many materials are also accepted at local retailers, including paint and batteries. Resource Productivity and Recovery Authority has an online map through Ontario Recycles' website listing locations where materials can be safely disposed. For safe and proper disposal, residents are asked to store these materials until they can be brought to a designated household hazardous waste drop-off or the City depot, which is expected to open in 2027.
The City of Kingston acknowledges that we are on the traditional homeland of the Anishinabek, Haudenosaunee, and the Huron-Wendat, and thanks these nations for their care and stewardship over this shared land.
