Closing Warming Centre

The extreme weather event, that was consistently seeing overnight lows of -20c or colder with windchill has ended. As a result, the City’s temporary overnight Warming Centre will be closed effective this morning, February 2, 2026.

Daytime warming centres remain open, and beds remain available in the emergency shelter system. Individuals in need of services are encouraged to connect with local shelters or street outreach programs. More information around winter services can be found in the Winter Services Response Plan.

Should temperatures change or another extreme weather event occur, the City will coordinate with sector agencies and supports to reopen a temporary overnight Warming Centre as needed to support community members.

The City would like to extend sincere thanks to Home Base Housing, The Salvation Army, and LionHearts for their valuable support and partnership in operating the Warming Centre during this event.

The City of Kingston acknowledges that we are on the traditional homeland of the Anishinabek, Haudenosaunee, and the Huron-Wendat, and thanks these nations for their care and stewardship over this shared land.

Today, the City is committed to working with Indigenous peoples and all residents to pursue a united path of reconciliation.
