Fifty new Canadians celebrated at annual Citizenship Ceremony
The City of Kingston proudly welcomed 50 new Canadians during its annual Citizenship Ceremony on Sunday, Sept. 20, at Kingston City Hall.
The new citizens were welcomed by Mayor Bryan Paterson, Grandmother Kathy Brant, representatives from the office of MPP Ted Hsu, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), and Judge Raina Sfeir.
“Becoming a Canadian is an important milestone, and we are honoured to have shared this moment with our newest citizens,” said Courtney Hall, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Manager with the City of Kingston. “Their experiences, perspectives and contributions add to the fabric of Kingston and help make our community stronger.”
Following the ceremony, new citizens, their families and supporters took part in the Intercultural Arts Festival, experiencing the music, arts, food and traditions that reflect Kingston’s diverse and vibrant multicultural community.
The City of Kingston acknowledges that we are on the traditional homeland of the Anishinabek, Haudenosaunee, and the Huron-Wendat, and thanks these nations for their care and stewardship over this shared land.
Today, the City is committed to working with Indigenous peoples and all residents to pursue a united path of reconciliation.
