‘Snow’ problem! Help a neighbour in need with snow clearing this winter
Kingston has teamed up with Snow Angels Canada, a resource that connects people in need of snow-clearing assistance with local volunteers who want to help.
The Snow Angels program is a community-powered service to connect neighbours. Residents can register to receive assistance with shovelling and snow clearing or can become a volunteer and find neighbours who need their help.
"Shovelling your neighbour’s pathway or driveway is a great way to strengthen community connections and brighten up someone’s day,” says Ruth Noordegraaf, Director of Community Development & Well-being and Inclusion, Indigenization, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility. “Whether you're able to lend a hand or you need a bit of extra support this winter, we encourage community members to sign up and make the winter season a little easier for one another."
Snow Angels Canada began in 2015 and, one cleared driveway at a time, has grown to become a national resource. Several municipalities have partnered with the organization to help their residents build community. Since the program is managed independently by Snow Angels Canada, the City of Kingston cannot guarantee that residents seeking assistance will be matched with a volunteer in their area.
Interested residents can sign up on the Snow Angels website to lend a hand or get some extra help shovelling snow this winter.
