City Hall Exhibition Docent
City Hall Docents welcome and guide visitors through our featured exhibitions in the Market Wing Cultural Space located at Kingston City Hall, sharing engaging stories about our temporary exhibitions.
2026 Market Wing exhibitions
- A History Exposed: The Enslavement of Black People in Canada. On view January 14, 2026 to May 22, 2026
- Kingston Music: Loud, Local, Legendary: on view June 2026 to May 2027
About the guided tours
- The guided tours are between 20-45 minutes depending on the exhibition on view.
- We will provide a tour script and a Frequently Asked Questions document for each exhibition.
- The position is available throughout the year when an exhibition is on view.
- Hours will change throughout the year based on the tourist season. This schedule may change depending on the length of the exhibition on view, with a few possible dates outside of this time frame, per request.
- January to April: Tuesday – Friday from noon to 4 p.m.
- May to October: Tuesday – Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Key duties and responsibilities
- Greet visitors (approx. 50% of time)
- Guide visitors through the exhibition (approx. 30% of time)
- Customer service (approx. 10% of time)
- Track visitor statistics (approx. 5% of time)
- Other duties as assigned (approx. 5% of time)
Qualifications
- Good communication skills and public speaking skills with a passion for history. French is an asset.
- High School minimun required.
- Customer service experience (giving tours preferred).
Other requirements
- Physical demands: ability to move A-Frame signs out to the sidewalks (lifting approximately 15lbs), and provide guided tours of exhibition throughout Market Wing cultural space.
- Travel: Must provide own transportation to City Hall. Parking is not provided.
