City Hall Tour Guide
Key duties and responsibilities
- Welcome visitors and provide a friendly, professional first impression of City Hall
- Deliver guided tours (approximately 30 to 45 minutes)
- Share stories about Kingston’s history, architecture, and civic heritage in a clear and accessible way
- Respond to visitor questions and help manage group flow through the building
- Provide excellent customer service and assist visitors with general information and directions
- Track basic visitor statistics when requested
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Comfortable and confident with public speaking and able to present tours to groups of varied sizes
- Ability to deliver tours in an approachable, engaging way for a variety of audiences
- A customer-service mindset and an enjoyment of working with the public
- Interest in Kingston’s history, culture, and stories, with the ability to learn tour content and share it confidently with visitors
- Previous experience giving guided tours is an asset
- French or other language skills are an asset
Other requirements and details
- We provide training, which includes a tour script and a Frequently Asked Questions document
- Availability: Able to do 2-3 shifts per week is ideal. With a minimum of 1 per week. Shifts are 3-4 hours
- Physical demands: ability to lead 30–45 minute indoor tours, including multiple flights of stairs and smaller spaces; ability to move A-frame sidewalk signs (approximately 15lbs)
- Shifts are primarily seasonal (May to October), with occasional shifts outside the season upon request
