On-Street Parking

On-street parking offers convenient first-come, first–serve short-term parking options in urban areas. We manage over 1,800 on-street pay and display or metered parking spots.

Maximum parking time varies from 2 to 3 hours. If you need to stay longer, use a Parking Lot or Garage or get a Parking Permit. You cannot park at meters for longer than the posted maximum time, even if you pay for extra time. When your time expires you must move your vehicle. Not doing so can result in a $25 ticket.

On-street parking may be restricted during the winter months. Learn about Winter Parking restrictions.

Paying for on-street parking

Pay and display machines

You must pay for parking upfront using this machine. It will issue you a ticket to display on your vehicle's dashboard. The ticket shows how much time you paid for and when your parking expires.

Pay on foot machines

This type of machine is found in the Chown and Hanson municipal garages. These Pay on Foot stations give you a time-stamped ticket when you enter the garage. Then, before leaving, you use the ticket to pay for your parking time at the machine and exit the garage.

Single space parking meters

Parking meters mark many of our on-street parking spots and require you to pay when parking, prior to leaving the vicinity of your vehicle. They only accept coin and must be manually topped up if you need to extend your parking time.
