Jeff McLaren was born in Regina, Sask. and raised in Victoria, B.C. He has a wide-ranging post-secondary education including studies in: economics, political science, philosophy and engineering. He has owned and operated businesses in trades, education and property management. He has also lived and worked in Europe and Asia.
While living in Ottawa, Jeff met and married his wife. They moved to Korea where he taught English, met her family and learned her culture.
Jeff is a property manager and superintendent for the family business in Kingston. He lives with his wife and two sons. His extended family also calls Kingston home.
Jeff is heavily invested in community services in Kingston. In addition to sitting on city committees, he contributes to the Anglican-Catholic Justice and Peace Commission, Kingston Health Coalition, Transition Kingston and Living Wage Kingston.
He also moderates a local philosophy club, The Philosophy Hammer, and volunteers at the Seniors Centre, Oasis Senior Support Living Program and at Collins Bay Institution, where he teaches philosophy.
Jeff makes himself available to constituents every Sunday from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Chit-Chat Café in the Frontenac Mall.
