A Kingstonian since 2001, Bridget Doherty has volunteered with several local not-for-profits serving as Board Chair for the Kingston Community Legal Clinic, a member of the Kingston Community Foundation's Grants Committee, and as a volunteer for the Portsmouth District Community Association. She is currently on Correction Canada's panel to restore the Prison Farms.

Doherty has a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Philosophy and English and has been working on environmental and energy-poverty issues for the Sisters of Providence of St. Vincent de Paul since 2009.

In 2007, Doherty ran in the Ontario provincial election as a Green Party candidate.

Doherty and her husband Paul have operated a successful business in Kingston. Earlier in their careers, they ran a business in Australia, Paul's native country.

Doherty has travelled extensively in South East Asia, Europe and Australia. Today, she lives in Portsmouth District with Paul and their three children: Renee, Grant and Sean.
